  • 3 large onions (2 1/2 lb.), thinly sliced (8 cups)

Requiring no added oil or butter, all that is required in this recipe, aside from the onions, is stock and time. See the TIP for ways these onions can elevate the flavor of your food.

Prep & Cook Instructions

  1. Combine onions and 1/2 cup broth in a large skillet. Cook about 8 minutes over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until all broth has evaporated and onions begin to brown. 
  2. Reduce heat to medium and continue cooking 50 to 55 minutes, stirring occasionally, adding broth in 1/2 cup increments when broth has evaporated, until onions are tender and become dark golden brown.
